Menteri Besar Selangor Akan Mengambil Tindakan Undang-Undang Terhadap Utusan Malaysia Berhubung Dakwaan Palsu Bahawa Beliau Membenarkan Festival Arak & Mengabaikan Nasihat Keselamatan

Adalah satu pembohongan nyata bahawa Menteri Besar Selangor, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali membenarkan festival arak dan mengabaikan nasihat polis seperti yang dilaporkan Utusan Malaysia pada muka hadapan akhbar terbabit.

Kami mencabar Utusan Malaysia mengemukakan bukti Menteri Besar Selangor pernah berkata demikian.

Majlis Perasmian Selangor Bio Bay, Pulau Indah

The progress of the Selangor Bio Bay underscores the transformation drive to build a complete ecosystem for biotech research.

Selangor Bio Bay must forge a symbiotic relationship with local universities and research centres worldwide and chart further advances in R&D in this specialized field.

Sekian, terima kasih.

Press Statement: Shock at Najib’s US Investments

I am utterly shocked by the announcement by Prime Minister Najib Razak that Malaysia will be investing as much as US$24 billion (RM100 billion) into the United States.

This investment is purportedly to “strengthen the US economy” at a time when our economy is crying out for greater investment, quite apart from the mystery as to why Malaysia needs to help out the world’s largest economy.

Malaysia is an emerging economy and we are doing our best to court investment from developed countries, not send our money away. Recently, we secured a RM1 billion investment from IKEA to build its Regional Distribution and Supply Chain Centre for Asia-Pacific in Pulau Indah. This creates value and generates jobs and economic multiplier effects back home.

It is also beyond belief that the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), according to Najib, is going to spend an additional US$3 billion to US$4 billion on infrastructure redevelopment in the United States. Is the PM telling us that helping the United States build infrastructure is more important than helping Sabah and Sarawak build roads and water pipes?

Money held by the EPF is money held in trust for the rakyat and cannot be used indiscriminately.

We understand that it is Najib’s choice that he meets with US President Donald Trump but leaders cannot mortgage the nation’s economic wellbeing for a photo opportunity.

KENYATAAN MEDIA
13 SEPTEMBER 2017

Selangor – Asean Business Conference 2017

We meet in exciting times as ASEAN is enjoying healthy and robust economic growth compared to other parts of the world.

We meet at a time when intra-ASEAN relations are experiencing greater cementing of neighbourly bonds with cultural and trade & commerce exchanges.

Indeed, in addition to vibrant enhancement of regional trade and investment, bilateral and multilateral discussions as well as people-to-people connectedness are on the rise.

Coupled with the recent successful conclusion of the SEA Games in Malaysia, these factors should collectively give us all in ASEAN a certain sense of mutual pride and respect and optimism of even better things to come, going forward.

In this regard, as we look forward to the prospects of the Selangor-ASEAN Business Conference, our analysts and number crunchers will undoubtedly also take into account the political and economic risks for multinational businesses in the region.

Fortunately, Selangor remains firmly ensconced in this regard, with no imminent threat of immigration surges or high risk of exposure to global financial instability or crisis.

As for terrorism threats, our security and intelligence services, particularly the police, have matters well under control.

On ASEAN in general, it is no exaggeration to say that as countries in other regions are leaning more and more towards protectionist policies, we are working towards greater integration.

Developments in East Asia arising from the actions of North Korea and the reactions from Japan and South Korea cannot be taken for granted.
We see the rise and rise of China and the attendant whispers of fear and alarm, but we must also not forget how we in Southeast Asia have been able to leverage on China’s growth and in the process benefitted immensely.

Indeed, we cannot dismiss genuine concerns of any power establishing geopolitical hegemony, amidst the tensions and conflicts arising from the South China Sea and historically unresolved issues.

Nevertheless, we take comfort in the optimism of ASEAN economic integration. Barring the issue of matters that prick our conscience, we should continue with a policy of pragmatism for ASEAN.

Speaking on behalf of Selangor, I can vouch for our policy of a very business-friendly administration which also places great premium on governance, accountability and transparency in dealings.

Selangor-ASEAN business will prosper as we in Selangor prime ourselves for transformation into a regional smart state, a premier regional trading hub and the gateway to Asia.

Selangor’s unique characteristics with ethnic, language and religious diversity and the strength of our unity as a society are attained and maintained under a state administration that espouses a policy of moderation, mutual respect and justice.

Selangor’s strategic thrusts in the five clusters – life sciences, transport equipment, machinery & equipment, food and beverages, and electrical & electronics – fit well with the ASEAN’s priority sectors on Agri-Food, Healthcare, Retail and Logistics.

Like ASEAN’s other focus, for example, in promoting women in business, young entrepreneurs and E Commerce, we are also actively pursuing a vibrant women’s empowerment agenda and the expansion of SME’s as well as E commerce, which is the commerce for the future.

With regard to entrepreneurship, we set up the Selangor Digital Creative Centre to train SMEs to become e-commerce traders, and provide co-working space to train startups.

In sum, Selangor and ASEAN are well synchronised to move forward for mutually beneficial trade and investment relations across a wide spectrum.

This year we are celebrating 50 years of ASEAN. Compared to any other regional groupings among emerging economies, ASEAN could be considered as a political miracle.

One of ASEAN’s founding fathers, Dr. Tun Thanat Koman of Thailand said “with the withdrawal of the colonial powers, there would have been a power vacuum which could have attracted outsiders to step in for political gains.

As the colonial masters had discouraged any form of intra-regional contact, the idea of neighbors working together in a joint effort was thus to be encouraged.”

From its inception as a grouping to assert a zone of peace, freedom and neutrality, to navigate the intricate waters of the Cold War era, ASEAN has grown tremendously especially in economic, trade and investment terms.

ASEAN leaders have injected new substance and impetus to the grouping and established the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) in 1992. This has developed into the ASEAN Economic Community with a comprehensive cooperation agenda aimed at making ASEAN a highly integrated regional market and regional production base.

With the ASEAN Political-Security Community and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, ASEAN is marching forward with a new roadmap toward 2025 with a common aspiration based on “One Vision, One Identity, and One Community.”

I believe that the ASEAN Economic Community is widening and a holistic approach is needed with services being a central part.

Notwithstanding the recent collapse of the TPP, within ASEAN, there is still much room for further walls of tariff to be dismantled. This is essential for greater trade expansion, investment and the development of human resource.

I need to mention of course that we are making preparations to meet the new challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution which, as everyone is saying, will be disruptive.

This is factored into Selangor’s vision for transformation as a regional smart state where new technology and value chains will be disrupted. Therefore, preparation should also be in boosting soft infrastructure of ASEAN, namely education.

Selangor places a high premium in this sector. We are the first to have a state fully-funded graduate business school to cater for the higher management requirements of an expanding regional economy. At the same time, we are giving new focus to development of technical and vocational training – TVET particularly, for industrial skills.

We see this as essential for businesses to grow where there must be a proper match between educational and skills output with what the industry and the business community needs.

In terms of financing, we have gone into an era of much cheaper finance with lower interest rates and generally lower inflation, region wise. There is therefore better prospects for further capitalisation of the equity markets and areas for financial reengineering in the banking industry and the bond markets as well.

For example, this is sorely needed in sectors such as biotechnology research and the aerospace industry which, as you know, are some of Selangor’s prime strategic focus.

Strong areas for growth can also be in hard infrastructure such as logistics, ports, railroads, highways and power generation.

To conclude, the prospects for ASEAN growth are still there and, while at 5 per cent growth, is respectable, I believe there is still much room for further expansion. Enhancement of ASEAN growth naturally would translate into higher growth for GDPs of member states.

Our prospects are bright. I am confident that the ASEAN business community – as represented by you all here today – will be ready and able to reap the opportunities to further boost the ASEAN economy.

With this, I have the honour of declaring open the Selangor – ASEAN Business Conference 2017.

Thank you.

Official Launch Of The Selangor International Business Summit 2017

First, l wish to thank the organizers for inviting me to officiate the event. Let me also thank our guests for gracing the occasion. For the participants, we appreciate your presence and support.

I would like to extend my congratulations to Dato’ Teng Chang Khim and also Dato’ Hassan Azhari for their tireless efforts in ensuring the successful organisation of this summit.

After 60 years of national independence, Selangor continues to lead the nation in contributing to its Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

As of 2015, Selangor contributed RM 240 billion, or 22.6% to the national GDP, with an annual growth rate of 5.7%. In fact, I am happy to share with you that the latest figures released yesterday by the Department of Statistics show that Selangor’s contribution to the GDP has increased to 22.7%. Hence, Selangor is also known as the Golden State of Malaysia and the economic powerhouse of the nation.

This year’s Summit features three key events — the Selangor Smart City & Future Commerce Convention 2017, the Selangor-ASEAN Business Conference 2017 and the Selangor International Expo 2017.

I believe this is the best platform for key business players, investors and decision makers from various industries to come together and optimize the full market potentials.

Selangor possesses unique characteristics in the region. Culturally, we are a microcosm of the nation reflecting its ethnic, language and religious diversity. Within this cosmopolitan mix, the people of Selangor are united and unified under a state administration that espouses a policy of moderation, mutual respect and justice.

Selangor’s governance possesses strength in clarity of vision and strategy to ensure her continued success as an ideal home and a prime investment destination for foreign investors.

Home to 6.3 million citizens, Selangor has the nation’s largest literate, well-educated and multilingual population. We have the biggest concentration of public and private universities producing in the region of 40,000 graduates yearly.

More significantly, Selangor produces the highest number of skilled workers to support the vibrant and ever growing industrial and commercial growth and expansion. While enabling businesses to grow, our highly developed infrastructure is also buttressed by the presence of strong logistical transportation facilities including the largest airports and sea ports.

The state government is pushing the economy forward by emphasising strongly on aerospace, e-commerce, services and biotechnology.

We have set up four councils—the Selangor Information Technology and E-Commerce Council (SITEC), the Selangor Bio Council, Halal International Selangor Council and the Selangor Aerospace Council to create a mechanism to push the industries forward and generate sustainable growth in these sectors.

Under SITEC, we provide co-working space to train startups, and in future commerce we nurture the growth of SMEs to market their products online. We are also doubling efforts to attract players and traders from far and wide to make Selangor the future commerce centre of Asia.

We are confident that with our developed digital infrastructure and logistics, and the evolution of a complete digital ecosystem, E-commerce as the future commerce will thrive and create immense value for Selangor as a regional hub.

This year, with the Selangor Smart City & Future Commerce Convention 2017, we look forward to working closely with our counterparts, in particular Barcelona, one of the foremost global authorities in Smart City development.

The Convention has attracted prominent policy makers, business leaders and experts to generate further discourse on smart cities which will give further impetus to our transformation program as a regional smart state.

Under the Bio Council, we are developing Selangor Bio Bay where we will create a complete ecosystem for biotech research. I cannot overstress the role of this research in driving the biotech industry.

While Selangor Bio Bay plays its part in ensuring the creation of the ecosystem, universities must step up to the plate and go headlong into carrying out the requisite and very specific R & D in this special field.

Financial engineering is also important in this field which is capital intensive – so investments are not only welcome but absolutely necessary to ensure that biotech plays its rightful part in taking the driver’s seat.

Ladies and gentlemen,

In order to attract investments, Selangor will continue to focus on the five clusters of life sciences, transport equipment, machinery & equipment, food and beverages, and electrical & electronics. Within the five, we place special focus on biotechnology and life sciences, including the medical equipment industry.

Malaysia has seen rapid growth in the medical sector in terms of medical tourism and is shifting its manufacturing industry toward this purpose. In transport equipment, there is special attention placed on aerospace, again divided into five clusters: MRO, OEMs, engineering services, training and aero parks.

Over 62% of the aerospace activities in Malaysia are located in Selangor namely Sepang, Subang and Serendah. This is an emerging industry which holds out great prospect of robust and sustainable growth. Hence, we have set up the Selangor Aerospace Council.

In the service industry, our vision is for Selangor to become a global trading hub and a financial and logistics centre. Further underscoring the international confidence in Selangor as a regional centre, we just recently concluded a major agreement with IKEA to develop their regional distribution and supply chain centre for the Asia Pacific region, located in Pulau Indah.

Since 2015, we have been positioning Selangor to be a regional player as part and parcel of our vision of transformation into a regional smart state. This is not so much a question of choice, than one of utmost necessity.

In global trade and commerce terms, the world is getting smaller, as geographical boundaries and artificial barriers of international trade, are getting dismantled. At the same, the global market is opening up and getting even bigger.

International competition may be increasing, but so will the opportunities for expansion and value creation. In this regard, I would like to stress that our approach to international trade and investment, is guided by the philosophy that these ventures are mutually beneficial and create value.

This means, creation of jobs, stimulation of economic activities and the generation of overall multiplier effects on the domestic economy.

On our part, we offer good governance, transparency and accountability.

Selangor with its strategic geographical location, sound logistical and technological infrastructure and strong economic fundamentals is geared up to be the gateway for even more robust regional trade and commerce.

Selangor’s strategic thrusts towards driving the economy and commerce are directed towards that objective. Our efforts at placing fresh impetus on the promotion of all the vital sectors are aimed at further enhancing our infrastructure and increasing our competitiveness to give the best to the world.

As for those who are already here, let me express our appreciation for your participation. You have made the right choice.

Your presence here and the increase in the number of participants, together with the extended period of activities and programs for this international series of events bodes well for the prospects ahead.

For those prospective companies and organisations, local and foreign, who are not here yet, please come and explore the vast opportunities in the offing. You will not be disappointed.

Ladies and gentlemen,

To conclude, with the continued support and collaboration of our regional partners, the encouraging response of international captains of industry and the commitment and resolve of the Selangor state government, I am confident we will grow from strength to strength to become an Asian Business Centre and a global trading hub.

And now, it is my pleasure to officiate the launch of the Selangor International Business Summit 2017.

Thank you.
