Azmin assures Christians of religious freedom

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, today met with Sarawak Christian leaders at the Anglican Bishop’s House, Kuching to assure them that PKR will protect moderation and justice for all.

Azmin last year resolved the Bible issue in Selangor when he oversaw the Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) return the Bahasa Malaysia and Iban language holy books seized from the Bible Society of Malaysia (BSM).

A source said Azmin today also told church leaders that PKR will work with them so Malaysia remains multi-religious and multi-cultural.

Among those at the 90-minute meeting were the Bishop of the Diocese of Kuching and Brunei Datuk Bolly Lapok and the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sarawak John Ha and the Secretary General of Association of Churches of Sarawak Ambrose Linang.

Azmin was accompanied by Selangor excutive council members Daroyah Alwi and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, PKR’s Ba’Kelalan assemblyperson Baru Bian and state PKR information chief Vernon Aji Kedit.

The PKR deputy president is on a three-day visit to Sarawak, where he said PKR’s preparations is underway for the Sarawak election.

The Christian community make up about half of Sarawak’s population.
