Azmin wants Ongkili to set date to resolve water deal deadlock

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali wants Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili to immediately set a date for both parties to iron out all disputes resulting from the restructuring of the water services industry in the state.

Mohamed Azmin said this included the demands made by the federal government in the water deal, including the taking over of Selangor assets in the Federal Territory.

“I am just adhering to the agreement that was signed. If there are different views, it’s better to talk,” he told reporters after presenting a cheque to fund the ‘Hijrah Selangor’ programme today.

It was reported that the date to finalise the proposed takeover of the water concession from Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd (PNSB) and Syabas by the state government had been delayed thrice.
It was initially set to be finalised on February 9, and later extended to March 9, and then to April 9. The latest date is tomorrow (May 11).

Asked whether the Selangor government would use legal avenues to resolve the water deal deadlock, Mohamed Azmin said he did not see the need for it as both state and federal governments agreed to certain terms and conditions on the water deal. – Bernama, May 10, 2015
