Media Release – Approval to operate extended to logistics and transport services providers for manufacturers producing essential goods

The Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI) hereby wishes to inform that the approval currently accorded to manufacturing companies producing essential goods during the Movement Control Order (MCO), is also extended to the logistics and transport services providers under these companies.

This is a necessary move to ensure that essential goods reach consumers in a timely manner. With this, the logistics and transport services providers are no longer required to submit a separate request for approval to MITI, in order to continue their operations during the MCO period.

It must be stressed that the logistics and transport services providers are permitted to only deliver the essential goods produced by their manufacturing companies, which in turn have received written approval from MITI to continue their operations. In addition, the logistics and transport services providers must also operate with minimal workers possible.

The Ministry is hopeful that the logistics and transport services providers will not flaunt the rules that are currently in place, and operate with a sense of duty towards all Malaysians. Those found to be in violation of existing rules will be reprimanded, including through legal means, where applicable.

For manufacturers that have been given the greenlight to operate, but are using private or individual logistics or transport services providers, they are advised to seek the Ministry’s approval, soonest.
